Blockbuster Anti-Trust Was A Waste Of Time | The Peter Schiff Show

To illustrate the governments complete lack of foresight and its tendency to ram through policy based on pure emotion, I wanted to talk a bit about the Blockbuster-Hollywood Video anti-trust case that prevented the companies from merging in 2005.

In a complete waste of taxpayer money and everyone's time, the government prevented Blockbuster and Hollywood Video from consolidating to remain competitive out of fears that they would simply raise the cost of renting home movies and corner the market. It was just two years later that Netflix started streaming and completely destroyed the home video rental market entirely. I discuss in this clip from Episode 709.
