Journal of Cardiac Surgery. Surgical and Transcatheter Surgery in Mitral Annular Calcification

The monthly appointment of Live Talks with the Authors organized by Journal of Cardiac Surgery, will host the paper by Dr. Sophia Alexis I6 Resident at Mount Sinai Hospital and Dr. Gilbert Tang, Surgical Director of the Structural Heart Program at the Mount Sinai Health System: Anatomic classification of mitral annular calcification for surgical and transcatheter mitral valve replacement. The idea to treat patients with mitral annular calcification (MAC) with a transcathter solution is very attractive considering the high surgical risk involved with traditional heart surgery and surgical valve replacement. This manuscript offers some new light into the complex world of MAC classification in order to properly select the best patients for the most appropriate therapeutic option. We will discuss the paper with Dr. Mayra Guerrero Interventional Cardiologist with special interest in structural heart interventions, particularly non-surgical heart valve repair and replacement from Mayo Clinic and Dr. Kendra Grubb surgical director of the Emory Structural Heart and Valve Center. Dr. Gianluca Torregrossa from Lankenau Heart Institute - Philadelphia and Dr Hameed Irbaz from Yale University together with Dr Tomas Salerno, editor in chief of Journal of Cardiac Surgery will moderate the session.
