Simba has a very long list of bite record including his own parents.

Being touched and handled has always been a very big trigger for him.

When he bites, he will often do so very quickly, without much, if any, growling or barking.

This is a clip showing his progress when l clipped his nails without any muzzle.

I started by using “touch” as a predictive so he knew what l was about to do.

I kept telling him “good” to encourage him to keep hanging in there. Even if he was not 100% loving it, he should not bite and should wait patiently.

At the end of “good good hood…” was “yes”. “Yes” was the release at which point all the pressure was removed and he was released and rewarded.

We have done a lot of work prior to let him know that biting was a highly inappropriate choices, and we have also taken a lot of time to teach him how to hang in there even when he is not super happy about being handled.

When he knows what he should and should not know, he is able to make the better choices and allow his nails to be clipped without going into fight or flight.

So proud of him.
