i have a 200 amp panel outside my house (which is supplied

From https://www.justanswer.com/ythi

JustAnswer Customer: i have a 200 amp panel outside my house (which is supplied from the meter about a 100 yds away) this panel only has a few breakers in it which i used to build by house.

JustAnswer Customer: now i need to add the final 200 amp box inside the house.

JustAnswer Customer: what is the best/safest way to do this?

Inactive: Master Electrician: You are corresponding with JOSEPH (The Electrical Doctor) - Your "Personal On-Line Electrical Professional Consultant" .

Inactive: Master Electrician: The panel you are referring to, is that just a temporary pole?

Inactive: Master Electrician: Or is this the only place the utility will bring the power too?

JustAnswer Customer: the 200 amp box outside is not temp.

JustAnswer Customer: this is currently where the service line from the meter terminates.does that help?

Inactive: Master Electrician: Yes and No.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Do you have a meterbase on your new home?

Inactive: Master Electrician: Or did the utility tell you the meter has to stay on the pole so far away from the house?

JustAnswer Customer: its a country home.

JustAnswer Customer: they said it has to stay on the meter there.

JustAnswer Customer: there is no meter base directly next to the home only the one that is so far away.

JustAnswer Customer: basically the meter at the road supplies the 200 amp box next to my house through an underground feed.

JustAnswer Customer: im just trying to find the best way to get from the 200 amp box outside to my house.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Please be patient with my questions, I want to have a firm understanding of your setup before I render an answer.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Now with that being said, your utility provides power to the meter on the pole 100 yards away, then it goes to another panel next to your home?

Inactive: Master Electrician: Can you explain the exact setup you have right now?

JustAnswer Customer: yeah sorry didnt mean to sound impatient:) i appreciate the help.

JustAnswer Customer: i have attached a picture of the panel where the service line has been run.

JustAnswer Customer: this is a 200 amp panel.

Inactive: Master Electrician: How far away from your home is this panel?

Inactive: Master Electrician: Also is there another 200amp panel on or in your home where this panel will feed power too?

JustAnswer Customer: this panel is about 10 ft away from the house.

JustAnswer Customer: i will have a 200 amp box inside the house, which the outside box will feed.

JustAnswer Customer: does that help?

Inactive: Master Electrician: Yes it does.

Inactive: Master Electrician: One more question.

Inactive: Master Electrician: At the meter, does this wire leave the meter all the way to this panel?

Inactive: Master Electrician: Or is there another panel next to the meter, or a disconnect next to the meter before it goes out to this panel you gave me the picture of?

JustAnswer Customer: im not sure if there is a disconnect next to the meter.

JustAnswer Customer: im pretty sure there is.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Can you double check to be sure?

Inactive: Master Electrician: It will make a big difference in what I tell you.

JustAnswer Customer: may take a sec.

Inactive: Master Electrician: No problem, I will be here.

Inactive: Master Electrician: post here when you have the info and I can tell you what you need to do.

JustAnswer Customer: ok yes there is a disconnect under the meter.

JustAnswer Customer: so it goes: meter-- disconnect-- outside 200 amp box-- new 200 amp box inside house

Inactive: Master Electrician: Ok - please remember that what I am about to tell you is only from a messenger so please dont shoot me.

Inactive: Master Electrician: :) From the picture that you showed me, your setup is not correct.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Because you have a disconnect at the pole just after the meter, this panel that you sent me a picture of needs to be a subpanel.

Inactive: Master Electrician: This means that you need to change out the wire to the correct type.

Inactive: Master Electrician: It needs to be a four wire cable and not a three as you have shown in the picture.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Next, from that panel to the one inside, you need to have a four wire cable as well.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Basically both panels after the disconnect need to be setup like subpanels.

Inactive: Master Electrician: So at the panel outside you will also need to drive two grounding rods and install a grounding bar in the panel so you can keep your neutrals and grounds separated.

Inactive: Master Electrician: Here is a pictoral diagram of how a subpanel setup should look: I am sure you are going to have more questions based on what I just told you, so please keep asking until you fully understand.
