Unveiling of COVID-19 Memorial at TUH

The COVID-19 Memorial was unveiled with a small group gathered for the unveiling of the permanent memorial honouring those that died during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The memorial is located in the garden adjacent to the Hospital chapel and contemplation room. The memorial known as the ‘Heart Memorial’ is in honour of those who died during the COVID-19 Pandemic, for the grieving families, for Hospital Staff and the Community who provided so much supporting during the pandemic. The piece is based on identical hearts, an initiative by the Pastoral Care team throughout the pandemic. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and continuously since then, Healthcare Chaplains have incorporated into their end-of-life care, the practice of placing a handcrafted heart in the hand of a dying or deceased patient while an identical heart is given to the next of kin/family member (when present) or if not forwarded to them by post.

With special thanks to the following for their contributions:
- John Kelly, Director of Pastoral Care
- Knitted Hearts read by Gabrielle Murphy, Chaplain
- ‘The Prayer’ performed by Emer O’Neill & Terry Clancy
Composed by David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager arranged by Cindy Blevins
- ‘Presence’ performed by Eden Dela Cruz, Chaplain
- “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled” – performed by Clara Monahan, Music Therapist at TUH. Composed by Elizabeth & Clara Monahan
