Why So Many NASA Astronauts Witness UFOs and E.Ts During their Missions?

A number of well-known NASA astronauts, including Edgar D. Mitchell, lunar module pilot of the Apollo 14 lunar landing mission, and Gordon Cooper, who was part of the Mercury program which ran from 1958 to 1963, claim to have seen strange spacecraft and even aliens during their missions. Why have so many astronauts on so many different occasions witnessed strange things in the sky?
