Saturday tropical update: Area in Gulf could develop, Larry's latest

Meteorologist Michelle Morgan has the Saturday update on Invest 91 and Hurricane Larry.

LARRY
Larry continues to gain strength over the warm Atlantic Ocean. With little to no wind shear and no land interaction, it will hold on to its hurricane strength for a few days. The good news is that it's a long way from land and the latest forecast track keeps it away from the mainland as of now. It's still to early to be sure that it will stay away but long-range models keeps it over the Atlantic eventually turning to the north. Bermuda and the east coast will keep a close eye on Larry, but long-term it is not a imminent threat to the Gulf.

INVEST 91
Invest 91L is an area of disorganized showers and storms over Central America. The NHC shows that it has a low chance of development in the next 5 days. Long-range models do move this area of interest into the SW Gulf after Labor Day and has is somewhat developing. A few things to take note. It will be moving into a unfavorable environment which will inhibit development. There is dry air and a decent amount of wind shear that should keep it weak. We'll continue to watch it but it's nothing to worry about this weekend. And it's to early to determine the path of this wave or impacts but we will continue to monitor it.
