Chapter 14: Karon the Burned

My father served in the Alchemists' Guild of Lest for many years... when I was born, he named me Karon, in reference to the great Sun Dragon Kar... he must have already foreseen what greatness I would achieve...

Already as a young boy, I studied the flame and during my conscription, I joined the Dragon Warriors. Fierce soldiers armed with curved swords and firebombs, courtesy of the Alchemists.

During the civil war after the death of our previous Loke-Khan... I was hit with an unfortunate battlefield accident. One of the firebombs of my comrades... malfunctioned and exploded in his own hand... most of our battalion perished but I... I survived... because the fire inside burned brighter than the fire around me.

General Ja Sür was keen to send me home, away from fire and bloodshed... but I had just a small taste of it... And I wanted more!

Karon the burned they call me, a badge of shame... or a badge of honour... It matters so very little... but when the enemies of Rhûn stand before me, my fire hits true and my sword lends mercy, the very sight of my smouldering armour and wretched skin instills fear in our enemies.

When Loke-Khan Rhukar recaptured the city of Lest from those wine-sipping pigs, he named me his chief Alchemist and grand pyromancer of the golden army. Long have the alchemists perfected their ancient arts in darkness, forgotten by the world. We are the masters of the fire, but we live only to serve the Loke-Khan... All we need is the right... spark!

Dorwinrim, dalesmen, dwarves... even orcs.. all are equal in the purging flames... and when their cities are reduced to ash, and the smell of burning corpses cloud the battlefield... they will know my name.
