Sorry! I think I should have turned down the volume on Clyde's bark! haha It's just so dang cute, I kinda got lost in it 🤭
Hey everyone! Surprise! No way I am waiting until spring to get back out there! There aren't a ton of opportunities for me to get out there, but any chance I get, where the weather isn't horrendous, I'm gonna take it. Today is one of these days 😊
As a reminder, or for anyone that is new here - this property is (at this time of year) a nearly 2 hour drive from home, plus the time it takes me to get materials down, myself down to the cabin location, sometimes that's an extra hour or so. Double that for the trip home. So, much of my day is wasted travelling, but I just get done what I can get done in whatever time I have!
I screwed up and cut the 2x4's short (by like 2" -ARG!), so my plans to frame a window or two went directly down that cliff. Haha. Instead, I shovel snow and close in part of the front of the cabin with a variety of milled boards from home (I have a mix of hemlock, pine, cedar and larch).
I screwed up on this as well - my boards were slightly crooked, and although my milled lumber is not perfectly dimensional and the same, the initial problem started from the bottom cedar board. I placed it flat on the deck, but I didn't realize that part of it was sitting on a metal flashing from the sliding glass door. This made it off by about 1/16" to start and as I went up and with my boards not being perfect, things got worse by the top. I am left with a gap, and while I thought of a few different ways that I could correct, all of them would take more time than I'm willing to waste on it.
And before long, my time is up already. I must clean up, pack up and hike back up/out.
Little did I know at the time, but my truck is falling apart and I've been pretty lucky to be driving around in it like that! (pretty much the whole front end is gone, plus my exhaust system is completely toast, plus a few other things). Arg! Poor baby girl!
Thanks for watching - I wish I could accomplish more on the actual build! I think now that I've got the SkyMule sorted out, established a bit of a trail down, and now that the days will be getting longer I hope to feel and look more efficient. (hope 🤞🏼 🤪).
See you in the next video, either here or there! 😊
