YS Fall To Middle Quarter Part(2)

YS Fall To Middle Quarter Part(2)

YS Falls opened in 1992. It is a nature-based attraction offering the opportunity to experience the beauty of the waterfalls surrounded by lush gardens and magnificent trees.

There are seven waterfalls, several which cascade into natural pools. Some areas are fairly rocky and river shoes are recommended.

Lifeguards on site, indicate which areas are for swimming, however, being able to swim is a requirement. There is a natural pool, fed by underground and above ground springs, which is more suitable for children and others unable to swim.
The tiny village of Middle Quarters, just outside of Black River, is famous all over Jamaica for one thing - "Pepper Shrimp". Groups of higglers line the road tempting passing travellers with bags of bright red spicy pepper shrimp. From their simple stalls (usually Dutch pots boiling on open grills and plastic bowls full of shrimp, set about a creaky wooden table) they sell one of the tastiest snacks available on the island.

The shrimp is boiled in salty water filled with crushed scotch bonnet peppers. The spicy and salty flavours compliment each other perfectly when absorbed in to the shrimp.

Most of the shrimps are caught in the nearby Black River but sometimes these catches are supplemented from nearby Westmoreland.
