President Cyril Ramaphosa has told the Committee investigating allegations of state capture that during his tenure as deputy president to former President Jacob Zuma, he had a number of options when he found out about state capture. Amongst them was the option to resign, but he believed it would merely have made headlines and achieved nothing else. Ramaphosa also said opting to remain silent or simply going along with the status quo were not options either, as it would have betrayed his loyalty to the ANC and its founders. The President said he chose to remain in Zuma's cabinet and resisted state capture in other ways. Ramaphosa is testifying at the State Capture Commission about his time as Deputy President of the Republic from May 2014.
