Chilly mornings at the orphanage 🌿
The grass was cold on this early morning, prompting Khanyisa to lift her foot up to keep it off the icy grass. 🐘
Did you know that elephants can't lift all four feet off the ground at the same time? They are known to stand on their hind legs when lifting up to pluck fruit from tall tree branches, but they are the only mammals that cannot lift all four feet off the ground — meaning that there is no jumping or leaping in the elephant world.
Khanyisa can also be seen enjoying a mineral block, which is a favourite snack for Lammie and Nungu too. The blocks contain healthy salts, nutrients and minerals, allowing the animals to take what they need to help their bodies thrive.
You won't have to turn the sound up too much in this video to hear the hadada ibis birds' noisy calls! We call them hadedas in South Africa and their persistent wails are quite notorious locally.
