South Australia commits to reopening borders to NSW, Victoria at 80 per cent double dose target

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall says his state will open up to NSW and Victoria once the state hits 80 per cent double dose but will still impose restrictions on entrants from some local government areas or exposure sites.

Mr Marshall has broken from the stances of Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania and told Sky News Australia he was committed to the national plan once his state hits a double dose vaccination rate of 80 per cent.

"I think once we get to double dose 80 per cent vaccination across South Australia, we'll certainly move away from state lockdowns," Mr Marshall said.

"In terms of state lockouts, I think we'll also be moving away from that and moving towards a more LGA or exposure site exclusions, rather than whole of state.

"We know that as we increase our vaccination rate, we reduce that transmission rate and hospitalisation, those people needing to go onto ventilators and those people who ultimately die from this disease.

"That's what we're signed up to in South Australia."
