Women in Afghanistan: In search of a better life • FRANCE 24 English

#ZahraSultani, an #Afghan #refugee in Canada and Senior Consultant at Loyalist Public Affairs, shares her gripping story as a young Afghan refugee. "My parents left Afghanistan before the rise of the Taliban last time around. I was actually born and raised in Iran as an Afghan refugee, and living as a refugee in another country, especially in Iran, was difficult because we didn't have many rights, I couldn't go to school as a girl, as an Afghan girl.

Eventually, life improved when her family moved to Canada, but Ms. Sultani is well aware that her own life story reflects the harsh realities that many other refugees face. "If people are lucky to just get out of Afghanistan right now, and go to these third countries, they're going to face a lot of discrimination the same way that my family and I had faced. And unfortunately, it's going to be very tough for them." Having said that, Ms. Sultani advises the world community to focus on "humanitarian efforts, and for the western countries to take in as many Afghan refugees as possible. Because these are educated, young people who just want a better life."
