1992 - 2001 GM OBS Truck Front Door BENT Check Link Roller & Pinion Replacement (Chevy & GMC)

1992 - 2001 GM OBS Truck Front Door BENT Check Link Roller & Pinion Replacement (Chevy & GMC)

In this video we approach the repair of a bent door check roller pinion on a GM old body style (OBS) truck front door. The pinion, or pin, that check roller rides on can become bent after many years of use due to the force exerted by the door hinge spring. While aftermarket designs would require drilling out the hinge pin itself to replace this bent pinion and roller part, the original GM approach serviced the door check link roller and pinion separately. Without removing the door hinge, I'll show you my method to improvise with non-automotive hands tools in order to remove the bent parts, and then press in a replacement roller and pin assembly.

Note: This video contains a proceed at your own risk procedure for one step, due to tool improvisation to avoid door hinge removal or drilling. Use of common sense, personal protective equipment (PPE), and extreme caution are warranted should you decide to attempt it yourself.

The vehicle illustrated is a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban LT K1500, but the procedure and technique shown is applicable to any 1992 thru 2001 OBS GM truck GMT400 type such as the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Cheyenne, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Suburban, or GMC Yukon.
