Emily Steliotes works for the UC Davis Innovation Institute for Food and Health, where she translates scientific research into commercially viable solutions. Currently, she is evaluating a sustainable pest management strategy that uses a combination of food waste and solar heating to kill pests in the soil. The goal is to make this service available to farmers so they can implement it in place of harmful pesticides.

Emily has built a strong professional background in food systems research, innovation, and outreach. During her undergraduate career at Tufts , she spent much of her time researching sugar chemistry, leading the Tufts Hunger Project and studying Spanish (including a semester abroad in Chile). After graduating from Tufts with a B.S. in Chemistry, Emily received a Master’s degree in Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, making her a proud double Jumbo.
